Our Cultural Learning Continues

Poland

Filip taught us about the country of Poland. Filip taught us some words in Polish.

Hello-Czesc
Friend- Kolega
Thank you-Dziekuje

The Poland flag is white and red. We colored some Polish flags.

Vietnam and China

Jada's family lived in both Vietnam and China. Jada's mom came to show us some beautiful cultural clothing. The clothing was so beautiful!

We learned about the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year is an important holiday for China and Vietnam. Red clothing is worn for good luck. Family members give children money in red envelopes. Fireworks and lanterns are often used to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Iran
Kayan helped us to learn about Iran.

What a beautiful flag! The students loved looking at words in Farsi. Kayan brought in some books that were in Farsi and English. Kayan also brought in a DVD from Iran.

We practiced saying words in Farsi. Salam is my favorite.

Kayan has a book that tells about Norouz, the Persian New Year. We learned many cool things about Norouz. For Norouz, families put a "Haft Seen" on the table. Hyacinth, vinegar, wheat sprouts, Senjed (dried fruit), Sumac (a kind of spice), garlic, and apples are included on the table to represent the Haft Seen. Families may also add flowers, pastries, colored eggs, gold fish, a mirror, and pictures of family members in their Haft Seen.

We had so much fun learning about the different cultures that make us so special. Thank you for all of your help!

Learning About Bosnia

Wow! We had so much fun learning about Bosnia. Stella was such a great teacher!!

Stella showed us where Bosnia is on the World Map. The students think that it would take a long time to walk to Bosnia. We talked about that the best travel option would be to fly. :)

Stella showed us the Bosian flag. She really likes the stars.

Stella modeled some traditional Bosnian clothing. The vest, hat, and pants are worn during traditional Bosnian dances. The belt is made of small silver coins that make jiggling sounds when they are moved. The jiggling belt was a class favorite! Stella showed us how to play the tambourine.

We had another expert come to help Stella teach about Bosnia. This student also speaks Bosnian.

Stella and her family sent in some yummy Bosnian candy. The chocolate bar was my favorite!!

A big thank you to Stella and her family!!!

Next up, we will learn about Vietnam this week. Next week, we will learn about Poland and Iran!

Learning About Rwanda

We had two experts teach us all about Rwanda.....Amael and Aela.

They had some wonderful Rwandan items to share with us! Amael and Aela showed us the woven placemats and baskets. They also showed us a drum. Amael and Aela both took turns playing the drum. We watched some traditional Rwandan dances on You Tube. The students loved dancing!

Amael and Aela shared their Rwanda packet with us. They talk to us about the Rwandan flag. They also taught us some words in Kinyarwanda.

We all colored the Rwandan flag.

Thank you to Amael, Aela and their family for helping us to learn about Rwanda!

Next, we will be learning about the country of Bosnia.
